* THE PROVEN: Ventura point guard Rhiannon Potkey, a Times’ All-Ventura County selection last season, is at it again. She had 14 assists against Alemany, one shy of the school record. Six-foot-one Lisa Willett of Santa Barbara gives the Dons a legitimate threat in the post. Buena guard Renae Hofmann made nearly 40% of her three-point shots last season.

* THE PROMISING: Freshman Kelly Greathouse of Buena is the same height, 6-2, and could someday be the same talent level as her older sister Nicole, now at UC Santa Barbara. Lauren Brooker of Santa Barbara, a 6-foot-3 forward, was all-league honorable mention last season as a sophomore. Ventura’s Alex Gientke averaged 9.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season as a freshman.

* FAST FACT: Buena has appeared in the last eight Southern Section Division I-A championship games, winning titles in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997.
