Robber Accosts Driver at Stop Sign
A woman driving a produce truck was robbed at knifepoint Saturday evening as she stopped at a stop sign, police said.
Robertina Hernandez, 33, of Santa Ana had stopped at Slater Avenue and Queens Lane about 5:50 p.m. when a man approached the right side of her produce vending truck and slid open the door, Lt. Larry Miller said.
The man demanded Hernandez’s money, Miller said. When the bandit told him she had already turned her money in, he tore off Hernandez’s watch and necklace and took $80 in a container on the dashboard, police said.
The bandit told the woman that if she screamed he would stab her, Miller said. The man then rode off on a bicycle.
The stolen jewelry is valued at $850, Miller said.
