Capistrano Valley Needs Only First-Half Goal to Beat Mission Viejo

Taylor Richmond’s first-half goal was enough to give second-ranked Capistrano Valley a 1-0 victory over Mission Viejo in South Coast League boys’ soccer Friday.

Richmond scored the winner in the 16th minute. John Tarnow recorded three saves in goal to get the shutout. Jeff Taylor had four saves for Mission Viejo (4-8-4, 0-3-2). Capistrano Valley is 14-2-2, 4-0-1.

In another South Coast League game:

San Clemente 3, Mater Dei 1--San Clemente got all the scoring it needed in the first half to defeat Mater Dei (7-8,0-3-2). Matt Weichert, Bryce Sebastian and Kris Winrich scored for San Clemente (11-3-5,3-1-1).

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 1, Foothill 0--Aaron Barragan scored from six yards with seven minutes left in the game for Santa Ana Valley (12-4-1, 4-1).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 2, Troy 1--Beau Lawson scored the winner four minutes into the second half for Sunny Hills (7-9-2, 2-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Pacifica’s Brandon Chow scored the winning goal with three minutes remaining in the game. After a scoreless first half, Josh Lay scored 10 minutes into the second half to give the Mariners (4-5-3, 3-1-2) a 1-0 lead. Guillermo Salinas tied the score minutes later for Bolsa Grande (1-5 in league).

In the Golden West League:

Servite 1, Ocean View 0--Javier Vallejo scored the winning goal in the 65th minute for Servite (18-3-1, 3-2), ranked second in Division III.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 2, Western 1--Marcial Escobar scored early in the second half to provide the winning margin for Anaheim (6-4-3, 2-2-0). Cesar Valdivia scored for Western (5-6-1, 1-2-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 5 Laguna Hills 2, Aliso Niguel 0--Ryan Johnson and Kevin McConaughy scored for Laguna Hills. McConaughy has 13 goals this season for the Hawks (14-3-3, 3-0-1).

In the Sunset League:

No. 4 Fountain Valley 1, Huntington Beach 0--Aaron Siemers scored in the 20th minute off a Donnie Soldan throw-in. Fountain Valley is 13-3-1, 4-0.

Los Alamitos 1, No. 8 Edison 1--Mohammed Abdelmulti of Edison prevented the upset after tying the score on a penalty kick in injury time. Edison is 11-3-2, 1-1-2. Justin Waldrop scored for Los Alamitos in the 60th minute. The Griffins are 12-3-2, 2-1-1.
