Esperanza Upsets No. 4 Los Alamitos

Unranked Esperanza, trying to keep its playoff hopes alive, defeated Los Alamitos, ranked fourth in Orange County, 2-0, in a Sunset League girls’ soccer game Thursday at Los Alamitos High.

Kendra Krupansky and Kim Domen scored for the Aztecs (11-6-2, 2-4 in league) and goalkeeper Kristin Skinner had four saves to post her eighth shutout.

Los Alamitos is 10-3-4, 3-2-1.

In other Sunset League games:

Fountain Valley 1, No. 9 Marina 0--Cary Groseclose scored 19 minutes into the first half and goalkeeper Erin Bottis made seven saves for the visiting Barons (8-7-3, 2-3-1). Marina is 11-3-6, 2-1-3.

No. 3 Edison 3, Huntington Beach 1 (OT)--Leeann Morton scored two goals and Erin Novak scored once in overtime for visiting Edison (14-2-2, 4-2).

In the Century League:

Villa Park 2, No. 10 Canyon 0--Tiffany Wilson scored two goals for host Villa Park (10-9, 3-3), which led, 1-0, at halftime. Canyon is 14-7, 4-2.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 2, Troy 1 (OT)--Sarah Gibson scored the tying goal with 10 minutes remaining, then notched the winning goal 2 minutes 30 seconds into overtime for host Sonora (12-2-5, 5-0-1). Troy is 4-6-2, 1-4-1.

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 4, Saddleback 1--Kelly Jameson scored three goals for visiting Ocean View (5-6, 3-2).

In the Sea View League:

No. 5 Woodbridge 1, Corona del Mar 1--Natalia Dorfman scored the tying goal off a throw-in from Meghan Bryan with 14 minutes remaining for host Corona del Mar (4-2-7, 1-1-4), which also tied Woodbridge, 2-2, in its first meeting, Jan. 8.

Woodbridge (10-4-3, 4-0-2) got its only goal when Dorfman slipped and knocked the ball into her goal.

In the South Coast League:

No. 2 Mission Viejo 4, Trabuco Hills 2--Annie Terry and Sarah Higham scored first-half goals for visiting Mission Viejo (14-3-2, 5-0-1).

In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:

Bolsa Grande 66, Los Amigos 53--Duc Nguyen scored 31 points for visiting Bolsa Grande (16-6, 6-1).

In the Golden West League:

No. 7 Tustin 64, Santa Ana 43--Peter Johnston had 16 points and 11 rebounds for host Tustin (17-5, 4-2).

In South Coast League girls’ water polo:

Mater Dei 10, Dana Hills 6--Erin Kelly scored five goals for host Mater Dei (12-5, 1-2). Dana Tucker scored three for Dana Hills (13-8, 1-2).

In a nonleague game:

No. 5 Rosary 7, Santa Margarita 3--Julia Wald and Natalie Golda each scored three goals for host Rosary (15-4), which led, 4-1, at the half.
