Marmonte Action to Be Aired on Fox

The Marmonte League football game between Westlake and Newbury Park high schools is scheduled to be televised by Fox Sports West 2at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 at Westlake.

Being considered for telecast are games between El Camino Real and Taft at Taft on Nov. 5 and between Hart and Valencia at College of the Canyons on Oct. 29.

HONORS

Chris Delja has received a $500 scholarship from the Bill Hedlund Memorial Fund at Crespi High.

Delja had a 4.2 grade-point average at Crespi and will attend Loyola Marymount.

The scholarship fund is in honor of Bill Hedlund, a former Celt basketball coach who taught math for 27 years at the Encino campus.

The Jaeger Baseball Academy is conducting its fifth annual arm strength and conditioning camp.

The first session is July 13-Aug. 21 at Canyon High from 8:30 a.m.-12 noon. The second is Aug. 3-21 at Pierce College, 4:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m.

Mark Covert’s three-person 30-kilometer relay will be held at the Lancaster National Soccer Center on July 26 at 7:30 a.m.

The relay, which is being held in honor of Covert’s streak of running at least three miles a day for the last 30 years, will require the runners on each team to run two 5k legs.

The Panther Boys’ Basketball Camp for youngsters 8-13 is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at Newbury Park High.

The camp, instructed by Steve Johnson, Newbury Park boys’ coach, will teach fundamentals, tactics and team offensive and defensive schemes.

Sessions of The Master’s College summer basketball camp for youngsters 7-16 are scheduled for July 13-16 and Aug. 3-6 at The Master’s.

Emphasis of the camps will be on fundamentals, including dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding and defense. Participants will play three-on-three, and compete in daily games and skill sessions.

A session of the Hammerhead Water Polo Camp for youngsters 8-13 is scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays July 14-31 at Thousand Oaks High.

Tuesday sessions run from 7-8:15 p.m. Friday sessions run from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Participants, who must be able to swim at at least 25 yards, will be taught fundamental rules and techniques of water polo by Coach Craig Rond of Thousand Oaks High. Cost is $65.
