Tereschuk Takes Over at Villa Park

Tom Tereschuk, former baseball coach at Servite High, was hired as the baseball coach at Villa Park, Athletic Director Frank Becker said Monday.

Tereschuk coached six years at Servite, with a 95-40-4 record before resigning.

Steve Carnes, Mission Viejo athletic director, will be the school’s football coach this season, assistant principal Wil Chong said. Carnes, the team’s offensive coordinator in 1997, replaces Bill Denny, who died last month.

Demian Brown has been hired as Canyon High boys’ soccer coach, Athletic Director Rob Alexander said. Brown, 24, played on Cal State Fullerton’s team that went to the NCAA 1994 Division I Final Four.

Danny Chocron, 24, of Venezuela won the won the 15-kilometer National Open Water Swimming Championships over the weekend off Newport Beach. His time was 3 hours 19 minutes 4.66 seconds.

Top county finishers were Aaron Lehr, a Dana Hills High graduate, who finished fourth (3:26.16), and Ryan Utsumi, an El Dorado High graduate, who was fifth (3:30.19).

Briley Bergen, 14, of Tampa won the women’s event in 3 hours 22 minutes.
