Ron La Ruffa, who led Fountain Valley High to consecutive Southern Section baseball titles, resigned as the Barons’ coach Monday, Athletic Director Mike Hennigan said.
Over the last 10 seasons, La Ruffa, 49, was 202-92 at Fountain Valley. His teams won six Sunset League titles.
In 1989, his first season as Baron coach, La Ruffa took over a team that had not been to the playoffs since 1985, finished 17-9 and won the league title.
Fountain Valley won its first Southern Section Division I baseball title in 1994 and repeated in ’95 to become the first county team to win consecutive section Division I titles.
La Ruffa could not be reached for comment. He will remain as an English teacher at Fountain Valley.
La Ruffa began his head coaching career in 1976 at Edison, where his teams won 237 games in 12 seasons.
