Manuel’s Home Run Is Difference for Poly

John Manuel had three hits, including a home run with two out in the seventh inning, and North Hollywood Poly defeated Newhall Saugus Hart, 2-1, in an American Legion District 20 baseball game Tuesday night at Poly High.

Sal Trujillo hit a home run in the first inning and was the starting pitcher for North Hollywood Poly (6-2), giving up four hits and two walks and striking out nine in five innings. Andy Gonzalez (1-0) relieved Trujillo in the sixth. He allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one for the win.

Valley Chatsworth 13, Van Nuys 5--Greg Wallis hit a two-run triple and Loren Devries had a run-scoring double to highlight a six-run sixth inning for Valley Chatsworth in a District 20 victory at Chatsworth.

The sixth inning rallied Valley Chatsworth (3-0) from a 4-2 deficit going into the bottom of the inning. The teams had been tied, 2-2, before Van Nuys scored twice in the top of the sixth.

Woodland Hills El Camino Real 7, Canyon Country Canyon 0--Matt Schwartz hit a three-run home run in a five-run second inning for Woodland Hills El Camino Real in a District 20 victory over Canyon Country Canyon (7-5) at El Camino Real.

Schwartz finished with two hits and four RBIs. In his first start, left-hander Ryan Gunches (1-0) allowed three hits in six innings for Woodland Hills El Camino Real (4-0).

Palmdale 12, Antelope Valley Desert 2--Matt Plante hit his second home run, a two-run shot in the third inning, and Chris Testa hit a home run in the fifth for Palmdale in a District 20 game at Palmdale.

Newbury Park 9, Conejo 5--Ryan Ayers hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to put Newbury Park ahead, 4-3, in a District 16 game at Newbury Park.

Ayers finished with three runs batted in.

Ojai 15, Agoura 4--Matt Alonzo threw an eight-hit complete game and hit a three-run homer in the third inning for Ojai in a District 16 victory at Agoura.

Camarillo B 3, Moorpark 2--J.D. Peterson hit a two-out single in the seventh inning to drive in Brent McGloughlin with the deciding run for Camarillo B (6-5) in a District 16 game at Moorpark.
