Lauder’s 3 Birdies Help Servite Beat University

Dave Lauder made three birdies to shoot a two-under 30 at Fullerton Golf Course to help Servite win a two-day match against University, 350-356, in nonleague golf Thursday.

Lauder birdied the second, sixth and seventh holes and finished the match, which started Tuesday at Rancho San Joaquin, at one-under 67 for the Friars (1-0).

Brian Sinay also shot two-under 30 Thursday for University (0-1), and was four-under 64 for the two-day match.

In other nonleague matches:

Santa Margarita 196, Carlsbad 213--Jimmy Dunn was the medalist for the third consecutive match after shooting a one-over 37 on Coto de Caza’s North Course for Santa Margarita (2-1).

Sunny Hills 194, Marina 227--Dusty Schmidt had two birdies in his round of par 36 for Sunny Hills (1-0) at Los Coyotes.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Canyon 91, Valencia 76--Valencia’s Matt Spathes had a Southern Section qualifying time of 57.4 seconds in the 100 backstroke, and also won the 100 freestyle (50.9) and was on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams for the Tigers (0-1).

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Corona del Mar 18, Foothill 0--Parker Collins swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, and Brian Morton also swept in singles for the visiting Sea Kings, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.

In nonleague girls’ track and field:

Marina 74, Capistrano Valley 56--Jenny Wootten won four events--100 hurdles (17.0), 300 hurdles (49.8), long jump (15-5) and triple jump (34-8) for visiting Marina (1-0).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Mater Dei 3, Foothill 1--Vince Pham had 12 kills for Mater Dei (1-0), which won, 15-0, 6-15, 15-4, 15-5.

Bolsa Grande 3, Westminster 2--David Ly had 12 kills for Bolsa Grande (2-0), which won, 15-10, 9-15, 11-15, 15-5, 15-10. Jared Barnes had 20 kills for Westminster (0-1).
