Golden West, Down Six Runs, Rallies to Defeat Saddleback

Golden West rallied for three runs in the seventh inning and seven in the eighth to beat visiting Saddleback, 10-6, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday.

Golden West trailed, 6-0, and was being one-hit by Ryan Poe through six innings. Kevin Stuart started the comeback with a three-run homer in the seventh. Golden West got nine hits, eight of which were singles, to score seven times in the eighth.

Adam Peters gave up one hit and struck out five in three innings of shutout relief for Golden West (10-6, 3-3 in conference). Denny Seybert had a double and triple for Saddleback (12-4, 2-3).

In other conference games:

Cypress 6, Fullerton 2--Steve Smyth (5-0) gave up six hits and two runs over eight innings for Cypress (10-7, 3-2). Cypress center-fielder Ricky Leach, who had three hits and three RBIs, broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Riverside 13, Orange Coast 1--Orange Coast took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on a home run by Yoshi Ehinger, who had two hits for the visiting Pirates (9-6, 1-4).

Riverside (13-4, 3-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, then seven runs in the sixth. Darren Chandler, Greg Dobbs and Pat Gonzalez each had two hits for the Tigers.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Irvine Valley 1--Kunio Koga won in singles, 6-0, 6-7, 6-2, then teamed with Dan Roditi for a 6-1, 6-3 victory in doubles for Saddleback (8-1, 4-0).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Orange Coast 6, Cypress 1--Martha Garcia didn’t lose a game in singles or doubles for visiting Orange Coast (5-2-1, 4-1).

Saddleback 7, Irvine Valley 2--Erika Dommeyer remained unbeaten in singles, winning, 6-4, 6-0, for visiting Saddleback (5-1, 4-1).
