Chavez Might Face His Final Test Tonight
Julio Cesar Chavez, one of the few modern fighters to record 100 victories, enters the ring tonight for what might be his final bout.
His decision will depend on who wins the World Boxing Council super-lightweight title--Chavez, the 35-year-old, six-time world champion, or his young rival, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, 27.
“First of all, this fight signifies a great deal because it is going to determine the rest of my future in boxing,” Chavez (100-2-1) said.
A crowd of 50,000 is expected at Mexico City’s Plaza de Toros.
Chavez is the sentimental favorite against Gonzalez (42-1-0), a former WBC lightweight champion.
