Channel Islands Wins in Seventh

Ryan Martinez hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to give Channel Islands High a 10-9 victory over Notre Dame in the Westside baseball tournament Tuesday at Channel Islands.

Notre Dame (2-1), ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh, two on a triple by John Horwitz.

Martinez had three hits, two runs batted in and three runs for Channel Islands (2-1).

Jared Krehbiel hit a three-run home run in a six-run second inning for Channel Islands.

In other Westside tournament games:

Hart 7, University 3--Justin Wiley had an RBI single and J.T. Stotts followed with a two-run triple in the ninth inning to lift the Indians (3-0) at University.

Chris Wright had three doubles and a single for Hart.

Andy Davidson shut out University over the final six innings.

Culver City 13, Buena 5--Sophomore Tony Walsh hit a pair of two-run home runs for Culver City (2-1) at Buena.

Hector Zamora had two hits, including a three-run home run in the sixth, for Culver City.

Chatsworth 11, Alemany 5--Matt Fisher had two hits, including a double, and five RBIs for the Chancellors (3-0) at Chatsworth.

Scott Seliz (1-0) pitched four innings of one-hit relief, striking out six, for Chatsworth.

Sylmar 11, St. Monica 4--Carl Ball had a triple, double and single, drove in three runs and scored three for Sylmar (3-0) at St. Monica.

Edson Gonzales had two hits and scored two runs for Sylmar.

Newbury Park 11, Palisades 5--Jake Farrel had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs to help the Panthers win at Newbury Park.

Tyler Johnson (2-0) struck out six and allowed three hits over five innings for the Panthers (3-0).

Barry Tolli had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.

Rio Mesa 12, Saugus 2--Isaac Romero hit a solo home run and a two-run shot for the Spartans in a game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule at Rio Mesa.

Nick Barroso added two hits, including a double, and four RBIs for the Spartans (2-1).

Alex Tellez (1-0) pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts and allowed two unearned runs.

Canyon 9, Venice 4--Ted Atler had a two-run single to ignite an eight-run sixth inning for the Cowboys at Canyon.

Mike Munn added two hits and two RBIs for Canyon (2-1).

St. Bernard 11, Taft 7--Jason Spector had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs, and Josh Wade had two hits and scored two runs but the Toreadors (1-2) lost at St. Bernard.

Camarillo 6, Moorpark 5--Jay Caligiuri had two hits, including a triple, and Joe Yingling had a home run and two RBIs in the Scorpions’ victory at Camarillo.

Goeff Abbott (1-0) allowed one earned run on six hits in five innings for the Scorpions (3-0).

Hueneme 12, Santa Monica 4--Chris Neri had three hits, including two triples, and scored four runs for Hueneme (2-1) at Santa Monica (0-3).

Carlos Rodriguez drove in three runs with two hits, including a two-run triple while Marcos Rodriguez drove in two runs with a pair of doubles for Hueneme. Francisco Camarena also drove in three runs with two hits for the Vikings.

In the San Fernando Valley Invitational:

Cleveland 1, Palmdale 0--Eric Aguiar singled home Tony Cicero with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning at Cleveland.

Max Santillan (1-0) pitched a six-hitter and struck out five for the Cavaliers.

Santa Paula 8, Grant 7--Ronnie Garcia scored on a single by Jaime Aguilar with two out in the eighth to break a 7-7 tie at Grant.

Henry Soltero had a double, a home run and three RBIs for Santa Paula (2-1).

Willie Zavala (2-0) struck out three and did not allow a hit in two innings of relief.

Birmingham 6, Antelope Valley 3--Joey Rubin struck out eight and pitched a four-hitter in the Braves’ victory at Birmingham.

James Hudgins had three hits and Billy McGrath had two RBIs in for Birmingham (3-0).

San Fernando 9, Quartz Hill 3--Fernando Hernandez had a three-run home run and a double, and Francisco Enriquez had three hits and two RBIs, including a solo home run, for the Tigers at San Fernando.

Chaminade 7, El Camino Real 4--Chris Martinez’s leadoff home run in the eighth inning triggered a five-run rally for the Eagles at El Camino Real.

Jordan Hoff had a two-run single in the eighth for Chaminade (2-0).

Woody Cliffords, who had three hits, hit a solo home run in the sixth for El Camino Real (0-3) to tie the score, 2-2.

Bruce Greenwood (2-0) allowed one run in three innings of relief.

St. Francis 4, Monroe 4--The Golden Knights took advantage of four walks and a hit batter to score two runs in the seventh in a game called because of darkness at Monroe.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, John Ennis didn’t allow another hit in four-plus innings for Monroe. He had eight strikeouts and six walks.

John Mort hit a three-run home run in the third inning for the Vikings.

South Gate 2, Westlake 1--Pitcher Nate Leiberman was a tough-luck loser for the Warriors at South Gate.

Granada Hills 10, Eagle Rock 0--Kameron Loe pitched a one-hitter while striking out nine for the Highlanders in a game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule at Granada Hills.

Peter Gunny had three hits and three RBIs for Granada Hills (1-2).

Franklin 15, Glendale 13--Keith Zavala hit a grand slam, and Adolfo Sanchez and Ryan Noll also hit home runs but the Dynamiters (0-3) lost at Franklin.

In the El Segundo tournament:

Crespi 11, Lynwood 5--Andy Campanella hit a three-run home run and sophomore Marshall Plouffe pitched four shutout innings at Lynwood to help the Celts (3-0) advance to the semifinals.

Crespi, which had a 9-0 lead, has its top pitchers, Michael Jackson and Tim Leveque, available for Thursday’s semifinals and Saturday’s final.

Torrance 6, Agoura 0--Brian Jacobsen (1-1) had two hits, including a double in a quarterfinal loss at Agoura (2-1).

Burroughs 6, Bell Gardens 0--Shane Vigil allowed one hit in five innings and the Indians won a consolation game at Burroughs.

Tommy Perez had three RBIs for Burroughs (2-1).

Simi Valley 14, Carson 4--Andy Karp had a triple, home run and four runs RBIs to help the Pioneers win a consolation game at Simi Valley.

Andy Gerber added three hits for the Pioneers (2-1).

In other games:

Oak Park 3, L.A. Baptist 2--The victorious Eagles scored two unearned runs on five errors at Oak Park.

Jeff Roberts (1-1) had three strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter for Oak Park.

Oxnard 21, St. Bonaventure 8--Paul McAnulty had four hits, including three doubles, and eight RBIs for the Yellowjackets at St. Bonaventure.

Oxnard’s Eric Fong had two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the second inning to give Oxnard a 7-0 lead.

Nordhoff 14, Bishop Diego 1--Noah Lowry (1-0) struck out nine and allowed two hits in four innings, hit a home run and drove in two for the Rangers at Nordhoff.

Josh Brousseau also hit a home run for Nordhoff.
