Saugus Rallies to Defeat Westlake, 7-4

Amanda Melton hit a two-run single in a three-run ninth inning to lead the Saugus High softball team to a 7-4 victory over Westlake on Thursday in a nonleague game at Westlake.

The Centurions (2-1) took advantage of two errors by the Warriors that started the rally.

Westlake committed 10 errors in the game and all seven runs were unearned.

Heather King drove in three runs for Westlake (4-1).

In other Southern Section games:

Village Christian 7, South Pasadena 0--Jackie Aranda (2-1) struck out 17 and walked two while pitching a four-hitter for the Crusaders in a victory at Village Christian.

Laura Robbins hit a two-run home run and a double for the Crusaders (2-1), and Robin Pearce added a two-run triple.

The Tigers are winless in two games.

Louisville 2, St. Bonaventure 1--Stefanie Urman’s fielder’s choice scored two runs with none out in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Royals (3-0) rallied to win at Tarzana Park.

Burbank 7, San Gabriel 4--Chantal Pershing hit two doubles and scored three runs to help the Bulldogs (2-2) win at MacCambridge Park.

La Reina 7, San Marcos 0--Mackenzie Vandergeest had two hits and drove in four runs for the Regents (4-0) at San Marcos (1-2).

Vandergeest hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

St. Margaret’s 6, L.A. Baptist 2--Amy Arnold (2-0) pitched a four-hitter and hit a double for St. Margaret’s in a Western Christian tournament pool-play game at Western Christian.

CITY SECTION

Sylmar 12, L.A. Marshall 0--Freshman Casondra Acosta (1-1) pitched a no-hitter, faced the minimum 21 batters and came within one walk of a perfect game for the Spartans (3-2) in a nonconference game at Sylmar.

Verdugo Hills 2, Reseda 1--Elizabeth Hewellyn singled home Crystal Dingman from third base in the seventh inning to give the Dons a victory over the Regents (1-2) at Reseda.

Kim Wood (3-0) had 10 strikeouts and a walk in for Verdugo Hills (3-0).

Kennedy 3, Monroe 1--Christina Garcia broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run single in the fifth inning for the Golden Cougars (3-1) at Monroe.

Cleveland 7, Canoga Park 1--Lori Keebler collected three hits and scored a run for the Hunters Park (1-2), who lost at Cleveland.

North Hollywood 21, Lincoln 6--Tashean Thomas had two hits, including a grand slam, and the Huskies won at Lincoln Park.
