Meza Runs for Six Touchdowns

Dee Meza scored a school-record six touchdowns to lead Orange Lutheran, the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Division XI, past Brethren Christian, 53-8, in an Olympic League game at Brea Olinda High Saturday.

Meza rushed for 181 yards in 11 carries, scoring on runs of 67, 44, 13, 11, three and one yards to give him 23 touchdowns this season. Meza, who also had two interceptions, did not play offense in the fourth quarter.

Meza gave Orange Lutheran (7-1, 1-0 in league) a 6-0 lead on an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Brethren Christian (3-5, 0-4) scored on a safety after blocking an Orange Lutheran punt that rolled out of the end zone.

Then Orange Lutheran scored 47 consecutive points in the second and third quarters using big plays.

Jeff Renevier caught a 74-yard pass from Jason Whieldon and Tim Fleming caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Whieldon, who completed five of 10 passes for 216 yards.

Brethren Christian scored its only touchdown in the fourth quarter when Nathan Farris, who had eight receptions for 123 yards, caught a nine-yard scoring pass from quarterback Kyle Painter.
