Man, 81, Killed in Garden Grove

An 81-year-old man was killed in his Garden Grove home, and police on Sunday said they are investigating the death as a homicide.

Wilfred Barnes died of blunt force trauma to the upper body about 10 p.m. Friday, Garden Grove Police Lt. John Woods said. Officials would not elaborate.

He said officers were summoned Friday night by a report of a suspicious death at a home in the 11500 block of Stanford Avenue, where Barnes lived with his wife, Georgia.

Woods gave no information about a possible suspect. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s crime lab is examining evidence from the scene, a process expected to take several days.
