Northridge Suspends Golden
Jeremy Golden, Cal State Northridge’s starting free safety, has been suspended for the game against Portland State on Saturday because of what Coach Ron Ponciano called “verbal jousting” with a teacher.
It is the last home game this season for the Matadors (5-3, 4-2 in conference play), who are tied with Portland State (5-3, 4-2) and Montana (6-3, 4-2) for second place in the Big Sky Conference.
Golden, a sophomore from Westlake High, leads the Matadors with 76 tackles and has one interception. Freshman Hassan Abdul-Malik replace him.
BASEBALL
Shortstop Wes Rasmussen of Moorpark High and 6-foot-7 right-hander pitcher Kameron Loe of Granada Hills High have committed to Cal State Northridge.
Rasmussen was most valuable player in the Frontier League. He played impressively last summer at the Area Code games and starred on the Conejo Valley Big League team that won a world championship.
FOOTBALL
Carpinteria High suspended 15 players, 12 of them starters, for the Tri-Valley League game Friday against St. Bonaventure, Coach Coley Candaele said. The players were suspended because they violated the school’s athletic honor code. The Warriors (6-2, 2-0 in league play) host St. Bonaventure (5-3, 3-0) in a game that will likely decide the league title.
