Park’s Low Round Helps Foothill Advance

Foothill freshman Priscilla Park won medalist honors by shooting a five-over-par 77 to lead the Knights to a fifth-place finish at the Southern Section Central Regional girls’ golf tournament Monday at Temeku Hills in Temecula.

Foothill edged Woodbridge, 280-286, for the final qualifying spot in next week’s team finals at Sandpiper in Goleta. It will be the Southern Section’s inaugural girls’ golf team championship.

Rosary, Santa Margarita and University tied for lowest team score at 264 and Mater Dei was fourth at 274 to also qualify.

The 5,139-yard layout, which carries a 123 slope rating, challenged the field. Only nine of the 76 players shot in the 80s and Park was the only player in the 70s.

“I was putting well today,” said Park, who had birdies on the 458-yard par-five 13th and 264-yard par-four 14th. “It was one of my better rounds. I was pretty consistent.”

Valencia’s Nikki Glowin shot the second-lowest round, 80. University freshman Angela Won shot 81 and Michelle Barth shot 89 to lead the Trojans. Megan Mulhaupt (83) and Brenda Progar (87) led Santa Margarita and Megan Barnett (84) and Orange League champion Romina Bollini (88) led Rosary.

Mater Dei qualified with Laura Johsz, the team’s No. 3 player, shooting 88 to go with Heather McDermott’s 92 and Shayna Shaw’s 94.

Woodbridge’s Channing Lovejoy (88) was the only other player to shoot in the 80s.

In the Northern Regional:

Marina advances--Courtney Goebel, playing in strong winds, shot 91 as the Vikings earned the last qualifying spot for the section final with a fifth-place finish at the Village Country Club in Lompoc.
