EAST LOS ANGELES — A 2-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet in a gang-related shooting Tuesday night, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The child and his mother were walking near the intersection of Union Pacific Avenue and Morrow Place when the mother heard gunfire, said Deputy Bob Killeen.
“The mother attempted to shield the child and run to her nearby home,” Killeen said. “Then she noticed that her son was shot in the upper body.”
The child was transported by paramedics to County-USC Medical Center. He died a short time later.
Homicide detectives are searching for several people who drove away from the scene in a white four-door compact car.
