Granada Hills Earns Top Playoff Seeding

Share

The Granada Hills High football team took another step in a stunning turnaround season by earning the top seeding Saturday in the City Championship playoffs.

The Highlanders, who won three games the previous three seasons, capped an undefeated regular season by defeating Woodland Hills Taft, 17-10, in overtime Friday.

Granada Hills (10-0), which will play host to Jefferson (7-3) on Thursday, was given the top spot over Coastal Conference champion Venice--the only other unbeaten team--because the Northwest Valley was considered superior.

The most alluring first-round matchup features 13th-seeded San Pedro at fourth-seeded Sylmar. The Pirates have won the last two 4-A titles and the teams have combined for four of the last six major division championships. But it will be their first meeting this decade.

Southern Pacific Conference champion Dorsey is the third-seeded team and Northern Conference champion Franklin is fourth.

In the lower-level Division Championship, Poly was seeded 15th but was removed from the playoffs because its coaches did not show for a mandatory film exchange. The Parrots were replaced by Hamilton, the first alternate.

First-round games will be played Thursday with the championship games in both divisions played Dec. 11 at the Coliseum.
