Witter Helps Harvard-Westlake Ground Down Pioneer, 42-30

George Witter rushed for 276 yards and three touchdowns in 28 carries for Harvard-Westlake High in a 42-30 victory over Pioneer on Friday night in a Southern Section Division VII quarterfinal at Pierce College.

Witter, a senior, gained 203 yards and scored on runs of 61 and 11 yards in the second half. He had a three-yard scoring run in the first quarter.

With 9:50 remaining in the game, Harvard-Westlake (9-3) began a 17-play drive on its own seven-yard line that ended with quarterback Matt Felder taking two kneel-downs at the Titans’ 11-yard line.

Witter rushed 10 times for 67 yards on the final drive.

Felder completed eight of 12 passes for 149 yards, including a 51-yard scoring play to tight end Alex Holmes in the second quarter that gave Harvard-Westlake a 14-13 lead.

The Wolverines went on top to stay, 22-16, with 1:25 remaining in the first half on a 14-yard scoring run by Holmes and a two-point conversion run by Witter.

Holmes also connected with Alex Clark on an 81-yard scoring play with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter. Holmes finished with four receptions for 83 yards and rushed twice for 18 yards.

Mike Culpepper rushed for 179 yards in 22 carries for the Pioneers (10-2), including touchdowns of 26 and three yards.
