SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COLLEGE (2-3) vs. CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE (2-2) at Northridge, 7 p.m.--Although Southern California is an NAIA team, a victory would be a high-water mark for Northridge, which has never had a winning record since joining Division I in 1990. The Matadors defeated San Diego, 73-65, Saturday, behind the playmaking of freshman guard Markus Carr and strong inside play by Brian Heinle, Andre Larry and Rico Harris. Forward Larry Beard, a junior college transfer, quit the team last week, but Coach Bobby Braswell will continue to use a 10-man rotation. Southern California, energized by first-year coach and former UCLA guard Cameron Dollar, 22, is playing its second consecutive Division I opponent. The first game didn’t go so well: The Vanguards were defeated by Loyola Marymount, 83-63, Wednesday. Steve James, a 6-foot-8 junior transfer from Hope International, and Dennis Keane, a sophomore and one of three returners, are the Vanguards’ top players. Jabari Simmons, a 6-8 center who spent one trouble-filled season at Northridge before transferring, will be eligible at the semester break.
