San Fernando Holds Court, 4-3

Elizabeth Cardenas and Claudia Perez rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles and give San Fernando High a 4-3 victory over Taft in a Northwest Valley Conference match Thursday at Taft High.

The Tigers (6-0, 2-0 in conference play) beat the Toreadors for the first time in girls’ tennis, according to San Fernando Coach Park Cockerill.

Cardenas and Perez won four consecutive games to take the lead and took four of the last five games.

Sophomores Maria Soltero and Nancy Huerta rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles for San Fernando.

In other matches:

Granada Hills 7, El Camino Real 0--Michal Zeituni and Kelley Takeshita, who have yet to lose a game this season, scored 8-0 victories for the Highlanders in a Northwest Valley Conference match at El Camino Real.

Granada Hills (5-0, 1-0), which has outscored opponents, 27-1, gave up only three games in singles against El Camino Real (2-2, 0-1).

Van Nuys 7, Birmingham 0--Diana Friedland and Tinna Chung won singles sets, 8-0, for the Wolves in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.

Van Nuys (4-1, 2-0) has won four consecutive matches without losing a set.

Agoura 11, Newbury Park 7--Defending Marmonte League singles champion Brooke Borisoff of Agoura swept three sets by 6-0 scores over Newbury Park’s Cara Diener, Aimee Fiore and Jessica Thompson to lead the Chargers (6-3, 4-1) in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.

Harvard-Westlake 11, Chaminade 7--The Wolverines swept all nine doubles sets to win the Mission League match despite taking just two singles sets at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

Theresa Galido swept at No. 1 singles for Chaminade, last year’s Southern Section Division IV champion.

Hart 16, Saugus 2--Sophomore Jenny Munroe (16-0) swept three sets by 6-0 scores for the Indians (7-2, 4-0) in a Foothill League victory at Hart.

Saugus is 1-8, 0-4.

Camarillo 16, Rio Mesa 2--Lauren Gaona and Erin Jones each swept three sets by 6-0 margins and the Scorpions (5-4, 2-0) won eight of nine singles sets in a Pacific View League match at Camarillo.

Calabasas 14, Royal 4--Sophomore Andrea Leewong did not lose a game at No. 3 singles for the Coyotes (8-0) in a nonleague match at Rancho Simi Community Park.
