Niumata Rushes for Record 8 TDs, 425 Yards

Los Amigos’ Andrew Niumata scored a county-record eight touchdowns and rushed for 425 yards in 15 carries, which would also set a county record, as Los Amigos defeated Bolsa Grande 71-46, in a Garden Grove League game Thursday night at Garden Grove High.

Los Amigos coaches will review the videotape today to confirm Niumata’s total yardage.

Niumata’s eight touchdowns breaks the record of seven, set by Heritage Christian’s Paul Caffrey and Western’s Trevell Jackson last season.

Caffrey also holds the yardage record, 422 yards, set last season during his seven-touchdown performance.

Niumata rushed for touchdowns of 49, 84, 9, 48, 3, 30, 86 and 71 yards.

Anthony Faletoi scored the other two touchdowns for Los Amigos (4-2, 3-0), on runs of 19 and 50 yards.

Ao Sualua completed eight of 13 passes for 147 yards.

Bolsa Grande scored the first touchdown of the game, going 23 plays on the opening drive, scoring with just over two minutes left in the first quarter.

Los Amigos responded with two touchdowns before the quarter ran out, as Niumata scored on runs of 49 and 84 yards.

Bolsa Grande’s Doug Baughman completed 22 of 41 passes for 339 yards and five touchdowns, four of those to Steve Jenks. Bolsa Grande is 0-6, 0-3.

In the Empire League:

Katella 10, Loara 10--Katella’s Juan Martinez kicked a 38-yard field goal with 20 seconds left to tie the game at Glover Stadium.

Juan Cuellar had given the Saxons a three-point lead with a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Loara (2-3-1, 0-0-1) took a 7-0 lead on a trick play in the first quarter. Quarterback Jeremy Ellis passed threw a backward pass to wide receiver Johnny Patton, who then threw to David Diza for the touchdown.

Katella (3-2-1) tied the score in the second quarter on Francis Johnson’s 48-yard touchdown run.
