Jackson’s Goal, Assist Help Titans Beat Loyola in Soccer

Cal State Fullerton defeated Loyola Marymount, 2-0, in a nonconference men’s soccer game Tuesday at Los Angeles.

Titan junior forward Colby Jackson scored on a rebound off a shot by Marco Mesorbian. Mesorbian and Rigoberto Bustos assisted on the goal, which came with 9 minutes 40 seconds left in the first half.

Senior midfielder Alessio Smith scored the final goal with 2:10 left in the game. Jackson assisted on the goal. The Titans (2-0) outshot the Lions, 22-7.

In other men’s soccer:

UC Irvine 5, Biola 1--Patrick Lee scored off an assist by Mike Mucino early in the first half for the host Anteaters. Don Icardo and Mucino also added first-half goals.

Forward Robert Melendez entered the game at the 63-minute mark and scored the final two UCI goals.

In women’s soccer:

San Diego State 4, Cal State Fullerton 2--Elicia Petre scored twice for the visiting Aztecs. Kelly Bogan and Jennifer Averill scored for the Titans.

In women’s volleyball:

San Diego 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Host San Diego won 15-4, 15-6, 15-6. Petia Yanchulova and Adrian Frediani each had seven kills and Katie Lindquist (Ocean View High) had 31 assists for the Toreros.

Megan Sabo led the Titans with seven kills. Krista Charles had 20 assists.
