OUTLOOK

Eggers takes over at Ocean View after coaching Cerritos for 10 years. Eggers, who started in mid-July, is way behind other teams. “We have really small numbers,” Eggers said. “There was no one here to hold the program together.” Eggers, however, is happy with the 30 some players he has. “Our skilled positions are pretty competitive,” he said. “And we have some speed.” Trice, McMahan and newcomer Smith are three of those skilled players. Trice will start at running back, where last year he carried the ball 93 times for 420 yards and caught the ball 18 times for 408 yards. “Trice is going to be an outstanding running back this year,” Eggers said. McMahan, a two-year letterman who is expected to be the team’s leader, completed 67 of 166 passes for 1,060 yards last season, including seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. This is Smith’s first season playing with the Seahawks and Eggers says he has been impressive at cornerback. The main concern is his front line, where he is unsure of its strength. The Seahawks’ goal is to improve on their one victory from last season and look forward to next year. “I don’t know if I have any expectations for this year, but next year we will have a lot of these kids coming back,” Eggers said.
