* Street Scene ‘98, San Diego’s annual street party, fills the Gaslamp Quarter, above, with live music of every type on 14 stages, along with beer gardens and food. * Opening Oct. 3 at the San Diego Museum of Art: “M.C. Escher: A Centennial Tribute.” The centennial of the birth of Dutch artist and draftsman Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) is celebrated with an exhibition of 85 works including drawings, woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints, as well as illustrated books and related technical materials from the National Gallery of Art.
