Gavilan Scores Twice in Second Half as OCC Rallies for Tie

Orange Coast scored two second-half goals to tie San Diego Mesa, 3-3, in nonconference men’s soccer Wednesday at San Diego Mesa.

Ariel Gavilan scored goals in the 47th and 61st minutes to tie the score. He was assisted by Mugbel Alunzi and Jose Quintana on both of his goals. Carlos Aranda scored first for Orange Coast (0-1-2). San Diego Mesa is 1-0-1.

In other nonconference games:

Golden West 1, Cuyamaca 1--Esad Pepic tied the score for Golden West (0-0-2).

Palomar 3, Fullerton 3--Brian Treat’s goal in the 92nd minute tied the score for Fullerton.

Treat scored the game’s first goal and Ryan Graham scored Fullerton’s second goal. Mike Cliens and Orlando Palmer each had three saves for Fullerton (0-1-1).

Santa Ana 6, Oxnard 2--Nick Purdom and Alex Garcia scored two goals each to lead Santa Ana (3-1).

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Santa Monica 5, Fullerton 3--Fullerton was no match for Maria Iraheta, who had four goals for Santa Monica. Iraheta scored 26 goals for Venice High last year. Kristen Rowe had two goals and Kaylle Sybesma had one for Fullerton (2-3).

In women’s golf:

Saddleback 348, Fullerton 385--Merry Morgan shot four-over-par 76 for Saddleback at Cypress Golf Club. Teammate Selby Schriber shot 77. Lily Garcia was the top finisher for Fullerton with an 84.

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

Southwestern 3, Santa Ana 1--Kyra Pelanchik had 12 kills for Santa Ana in its 10-15, 15-9, 15-7, 15-11 loss.
