Library to Benefit From Used Book Sale

Read all about it: They might be tattered and torn. Many are likely to be a little scuffed or, if well-read, weathered.

But there is no doubt that the used books for sale Tuesday at the Sylmar branch of the city library system will be a steal for bargain hunters.

The library will host the sale from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in its rear parking lot. Proceeds will benefit children’s programs at the branch and help pay for new books.

“It’s a really nice way for people to get bargain-priced books,” said Irene Galvan, senior branch librarian.

The sale was organized by the Friends of the Sylmar Library, a group that collected hundreds of old books from the community and donated them for the sale.

The stock includes paperback and hardback volumes of fiction, nonfiction and children’s literature.

The price range for most books will be 10 cents to $1, Galvan said. “If we could raise $200 or $300,” she said, “that would be a lot.”

The library is at 13059 Glenoaks Blvd. For information, call (818) 367-6103.
