Sheriff’s deputies have arrested three alleged gang members and are seeking another after a shooting left five Lynwood High School students with bullet wounds.

The students suffered non-life-threating injuries in the 3:15 p.m. shooting Wednesday, Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Taylor said Thursday. The three boys and two girls, ages 14 to 16, were treated for leg injuries at nearby hospitals and released, said Audrey Clarke, superintendent of the Lynwood Unified School District.

“These were innocent students walking home from school,” Clarke said.

The shooting occurred shortly after classes ended for the day. Two carloads of alleged gang members got out and confronted one another on Imperial and Standard avenues, Taylor said. One began firing a weapon at the rival group and struck the students.

Campus security officers, deputies and paramedics arrived within minutes. After cordoning off the area, deputies caught three suspects as they ran from the scene.

Jermaine Shepherd, 22; Gregory Tinner, 19; and Kindrick Govan, 19, were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
