Mater Dei pounded St. John Bosco twice last season, 40-7 in the second week and 42-8 in the playoffs. In outlasting Clovis West, 21-14, on Saturday, the Monarchs displayed their usual offensive balance: Junior Palacios rushed for 168 yards and quarterback Scott Lukash threw for 169. Kelvin Millhouse, a transfer from Fountain Valley, had six receptions for 109 yards. St. John Bosco beat Lakewood Mayfair, 14-13, last week in Kiki Mendoza’s coaching debut. The Braves employ running backs Jamaul Montgomery and Joseph Lucero in a veer offense.
