Foothill Rallies for Victory in Water Polo

Foothill’s water polo team came back from a flat first quarter to score five goals in the second to take control of a nonleague game the Knights finally won, 8-5, Friday over host Corona del Mar.

Eitan Goldstein and Matt Ellis each scored three goals to lead Foothill (2-1).

Ryan Tucker and Garrett Gentry each had two goals for Corona del Mar (1-1).

In other nonleague water polo games:

Marina 11, Laguna Beach 7--Two-meter man Justin Fassnacht scored four goals and teammate Jeff Larson added three to help Marina to victory. Senior Rusty Keil had two goals for Marina (2-1).

Santa Ana 15, Kennedy 3--Santa Ana was too much for visiting Kennedy as the Saints scored 10 goals by halftime. Danny Serna had six goals to lead Santa Ana (1-1).

Servite 12, Santa Barbara 5--Dane Jansen led the Friars (2-0) with six goals. Teammates Phillip Garcia and Eric Woolery combined for 11 steals.

In the Poway tournament:

Villa Park 16, Mar Vista 6--Senior Nick Pacelli scored nine goals to lead Villa Park to a quarterfinal victory. Pacelli had five goals in the first half as the Spartans took a 6-3 lead, then added three more in the third quarter when Villa Park outscored Mar Vista, 4-1. Matt Doerr had nine saves for the Spartans, who remain undefeated at 4-0.

In nonleague tennis:

Brea Olinda 13, Orange 5--Junior Kelly Scanlan swept her No. 1 singles sets to help Brea Olinda (4-0) to its fourth consecutive victory. Host Orange is 1-1.

Canyon 15, Westminster 3--Wendy Nguyen swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Canyon (1-4).

Esperanza 9, Garden Grove 9 (Esperanza wins in games, 81-73)--Ritchelle Quiambo defeated Garden Grove’s No. 1 singles player, 6-2, to give Esperanza a 9-8 lead, but Garden Grove (2-3) won the last set against Joyan Chan to tie the score. Kelly Six, who is 15-0 in singles, swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, for Esperanza (5-0).
