UCI Women’s Soccer Team Runs Unbeaten Streak to 8

The UC Irvine women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight as the Anteaters defeated Utah State, 3-0, in Big West Conference play Friday.

The Anteaters’ leading scorer, Nicole Bucciarelli, scored two goals, giving her 20 points this season. Bucciarelli is the Anteater’s all-time points leader with 116.

Kori Zimmerman scored the first goal 2 minutes 11 seconds into the game.

UC Irvine (7-0-1, 1-0) has the second-longest unbeaten streak in the nation behind North Carolina, which has 50 victories and one tie in its last 51 games.

The Anteaters dominated, with 22 shots on goal to Utah State’s 6. Utah State goalkeeper Mackenzie Hyer made nine saves. Aggie scoring leader Jayme Gordy was held to two shots, one of which ricocheted off the left post early in the second half.

Utah State is 3-5, 0-2.

In another Big West Conference women’s soccer game:

North Texas 2, Cal State Fullerton 1 (OT)--Sophomore midfielder Teresa Vise scored the winning goal three minutes into overtime for North Texas (7-1, 1-0). The Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Krista Davey in the 16th minute.

Cal State Fullerton (4-5, 1-1) tied the score in the 71st minute on a goal by Kelly Bogan.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Cal Lutheran 2, Concordia 0--Cal Lutheran outshot Concordia, 17-9, handing the Eagles (1-7-1) their third shutout of the season. Cu-Hallan McGivern and Oskar Kantoft scored for Cal Lutheran (3-3).

Sophomore forward Josh Egan, Concordia’s leading scoring, suffered a sprained ankle in the 72nd minute and is expected to be out for two to four weeks. The Eagles will play at UC Irvine tonight.
