Moorpark Reaches a Record With 16th Consecutive Victory

Moorpark High tied a Ventura County record with its 16th consecutive victory by rolling over Channel Islands, 46-22, Friday in a nonleague game at Moorpark.

The Musketeers (3-0), who equaled the mark set by Newbury Park in 1993-94, jumped to a 32-0 halftime lead.

The Raiders (0-3) limited Moorpark to 257 yards, but committed four turnovers and lost an onside kick that led to 24 Musketeer points, including a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kevin Sedik.

Artie Garcia rushed for 80 yards in 14 carries, and had touchdown runs of 10 and four yards for Moorpark. Art Lopez added 54 yards in four carries, including a 20-yard touchdown run.

Channel Islands’ Russell Patton rushed for 152 yards in 18 carries and scored on runs of nine and 50 yards. Ernie Carrasco had 14 carries for 84 yards, and Chris Viascan added 81 yards in 12 carries as the Raiders had 330 yards rushing.
