Cross-country

Terry Vega, a freshman from San Gorgonio High in San Bernardino, finished eighth in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational Saturday despite a troubled start. Another runner stumbled and pulled Vega down from behind. She scraped her knees, an elbow and her hands in the fall. The race was stopped, then restarted. Vega has been the top female finisher for the Titans in all three meets this season.

THIS WEEK

Men’s soccer: The Titans, who last weekend suffered consecutive shutout losses for the first time since 1986, will try to regroup this week, playing Fresno State at 8 p.m. Friday and Cal State Los Angeles at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Fila Titan Classic at Titan Stadium. Fullerton (5-3-1) lost to Tulsa, 4-0, and to Southern Methodist, 1-0. SMU was ranked No. 1 nationally this season before it lost three consecutive games.

Women’s soccer: The Titans play play USC at 7 p.m. Thursday in Titan Stadium in their only game this week.

Women’s volleyball: Fullerton plays two Big West games on the road this week, taking on North Texas Thursday and UC Irvine at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Titans (5-7, 0-2 Big West) lost Big West matches last weekend to UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Cross-country: One group of runners will compete in the Stanford Invitational Saturday, with another group at the Biola Invitational in La Mirada. The men’s and women’s teams each were fourth among five teams in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational last weekend.
