Katella Has No Trouble Beating No. 6 Cypress

Mike Martinez struck out four and didn’t give up an earned run to help visiting Katella defeat Cypress, ranked sixth in the county, 5-1, in an Empire League baseball game Wednesday.

Martinez improved to 4-0 for Katella (7-4, 3-1 in league). Matt Tisthammer went two for two with a run batted in and Scott Fraser hit a home run for the Knights.

In other Empire League games:

No. 4 El Dorado 4, Loara 3--Brett Marro hit a two-run home run and Dan Franklin also hit a home run for the Golden Hawks (8-3, 4-0).

Kennedy 7, Century 1--Joe Caira hit a two-run home run for visiting Kennedy (3-8, 1-3), which ended a six-game losing streak.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 11, No. 10 Trabuco Hills 0 (6 innings, mercy rule)--Shortstop Pat Manning hit two home runs and drove in five runs as the Monarchs (8-1, 5-0) cruised at Trabuco Hills (8-2, 4-1).

Josh Hansen hit a grand slam and Nick Lavato struck out nine in five innings for Mater Dei.

In a nonleague game:

Norwalk 1, No. 2 La Quinta 0 (8)--Richard Ramirez scored the winning run on Carl Phillips’ two-out single in the bottom of the eighth. La Quinta (11-1) had one hit against starter Luis Trinidad, who struck out 14 and walked one in a complete game for the host Lancers (2-8).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 13, Troy 2 (6 innings, mercy rule)--Armando Lopez had four RBIs for Fullerton (5-5, 3-1).

Sunny Hills 10, Sonora 7--Sophomore Ryan Mansfield had two hits and four RBIs for visiting Sunny Hills (6-4, 3-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 4, Pacifica 1--Starter Raphael Jesus gave up two hits in 5 1/3 innings for visiting Los Amigos (12-0, 4-0).

In the Golden West League:

No. 3 Servite 10, Santa Ana 1--Ryan Garko hit a two-run double to highlight a 10-run second inning for host Servite (9-1, 5-0).

In the Orange League:

Savanna 8, Brea Olinda 7--After Brea (7-4, 3-1) scored one run in the top of the seventh to tie it, 7-7, Savanna’s Juan Salazar hit a two-out double in the bottom of the inning to drive in Scott Akamine from first with the winning run.

Ryan Seltver hit two home runs and had three RBIs for host Savanna (3-6, 1-3).
