Sophomore left-hander Chris Seddon of Canyon High started the season on junior varsity, but pitched so well Coach Adam Schulhofer promoted him.

It was a good move.

Seddon (3-0) struck out four, walked two and pitched an eight-hitter in a 5-3 victory over Hart on Thursday in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Garret Behnke hit a two-run double and a run-scoring single for the Cowboys (6-5, 4-2) and Mike Suarez hit a home run.

Brandon Montemayor had three hits for Hart (11-2, 5-1), ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.

Seddon, 6 feet 1 and 155 pounds, has defeated Burbank, Valencia and Hart in league play.

“I’ve been throwing strikes, hitting my locations and keeping the ball low,” he said.

With size 14 shoes, the 15-year-old Seddon still has plenty of growing to do.

“I want to be 6-6,” he said.

Added Schulhofer: “He’s going to be a monster someday.”

Hart has won five of the last six Foothill titles but has had trouble with Canyon.

The Cowboys were the only Foothill team to beat Hart last season, doing it twice.

Justin Wiley (4-1) pitched a 7-1 victory over Canyon on March 26, but took the loss this time.
