Top Swim Teams Set for Showdown

The unbeaten Crescenta Valley High and Hart swim teams will square off in a nonleague dual meet at 3:15 p.m. today at Crescenta Valley.

The boys’ meet matches defending Southern Section Division II champion Crescenta Valley against Division II runner-up Hart.

The girls’ meet features 16-time defending Foothill League champion Hart against a Crescenta Valley team that won its first-ever Pacific League title last season but has never lost to Hart.

“We’ll go all out,” Hart Coach Steve Neale said. “It’s going to be won in the trenches. They have their studs and we have ours. It’s after that that we don’t know about.”

Both Crescenta Valley teams are 6-0. The Hart teams are 4-0. Crescenta Valley swept Hart in each of the previous two seasons.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Cal State Northridge has been picked to win the Big Sky Conference women’s outdoor title in a poll of conference coaches.

The Matadors finished second to Weber State in the Big Sky outdoor championships last year, but posted a meet-record 165 points in winning the indoor title in February.

Northridge is picked to finish fourth in the men’s meet after placing fifth last year.

The outdoor championships will be held at Northridge from May 19-22.

BASEBALL

* The Babe Herman tournament championship game between Crescenta Valley High and Mountain View has been rescheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Stengel Field in Glendale.

HOCKEY

* Clint Reuter and Sean Hogan each scored two goals to lead Cal State Northridge over San Diego State, 4-2, in the championship game of the Pacific Collegiate Hockey Assn. tournament Sunday in Vacaville.

Sean Beattie had three assists and goalie Jerome Johnston stopped 20 shots for the Matadors.
