Woodbridge Wins Meet in Final Event

Woodbridge avoided an upset by winning the final event and defeating El Toro, 70-66, in a Sea View League girls’ track and field meet Thursday at Woodbridge.

The third-ranked Warriors trailed by a point before the 1,600 relay, but Heather Simon, Katheryn Geneau, Melissa Fischer and Janelle Loudat finished in 4 minutes 16.3 seconds to move ahead of the Chargers.

Loudat also won the 400 (1:01.1) and 300 hurdles and ran on the winning 400 relay team. Teammate Meryl Stone won the 100 (12.2), 200 (25.3) and long jump (14-10) and was also on the winning 400 relay team.

In another Sea View League girls’ meet:

No. 4 Santa Margarita 80, Newport Harbor 52--Freshman Sommer Owens ran a season-best 2:18.59 in winning the 800 for Santa Margarita (5-0, 3-0).

In Golden West League girls’ track:

Santa Ana 82, Saddleback 36--Santa Ana’s Martha Fuentes won the 800 (2:29) and 1,600 (5:39).

Rosary 87, Tustin 48--Christi Arnerich set a school record in the 1,600 (5:31) for Rosary (3-0 in league). Arnerich also won the 400 (1:02.5).

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 94, Aliso Niguel 45--University’s Lindsay Paulick won the high jump (5-5).

In Sea View League boys’ track:

El Toro 93, Woodbridge 43--Sam Moore won the 100 (10.8) and 200 (22.6) for visiting El Toro (2-1 in league).

No. 5 Santa Margarita 84, No. 4 Newport Harbor 58--Garrett Thompson was a double winner for Santa Margarita (6-0, 3-0), winning the 200 (22.74), and 400 (49.95). Thompson also ran the third leg for the winning 400 relay team.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 88, El Modena 43--Junior Augie Escobar and senior Dustin Roberts each won two individual events for Villa Park. Escobar won the 800 (2:01.6) and 1,600 (4:44.2). Roberts won both hurdle events, was a member of the 400 relay team and finished second in the high jump.

Orange 65, Santa Ana Valley 65--Orange needed to win the 1,600 relay to earn the tie and Orange’s Myron Keyes, who also won the 200 (24.9) and 400 (54.3), anchored the winning 1,600 relay team (3:48.0). Joe Busch won the 110 hurdles (18.7) and 300 hurdles (43.8) for Orange.

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 69, Rancho Alamitos 58--Jeremy Lovelace won the triple jump (38-9), and anchored the winning 400 relay team (45.10), for Pacifica (4-0 in league).

In the Golden West League:

Santa Ana 95, Saddleback 34--Jeff Grivas won the high jump (5-8) and long jump (20-7) for Santa Ana. Saddleback’s Eddie Leon won the 800 (2:05) and 1,600 (4:35).

No. 8 Tustin 75, Servite 52--Chris Chapman finished first in the 110 hurdles (15.2) and 300 hurdles (41.8) for Tustin (5-0, 3-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 92, University 44--Jeremy Collins won the 880 (2:10.0) and mile (4:43.0) for University.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 102, Mater Dei 34--Mike DiCiolla won the shot put (54-8) and discus (141-8) for Mission Viejo. Chris Leighton’s 43-0 1/2 triple-jump mark was a personal best.
