Redlin Has No Mercy in Rout of Chatsworth

They’re no longer using a rotation at El Camino Real High, but another opponent was still left reeling.

The Conquistadores, who had split pitching time between senior Ashley Redlin and junior Stephanie Frasco, went with Redlin for the second consecutive game on Wednesday, a 14-0 rout of Chatsworth in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.

The game was stopped after five innings because of a 10-run mercy rule.

The shutout was the eighth in a row for El Camino Real (13-2, 6-0 in Northwest Valley Conference play), ranked No. 7 in the region by The Times.

Five of those shutouts have come in games started by Redlin (8-2), who will get the majority of the starts as the Conquistadores gear up for the City Section playoffs.

“It’s hard to choose between them,” Coach Neils Ludlow said of his two right-handers, who have combined for 13 shutouts. “But Stephanie knows that next year is her year.”

Frasco, who was 14-2 with a 0.54 earned-run average as a sophomore, didn’t exactly lose the job. She was 5-0 and allowed six hits and no runs in 30 innings.

“It’s important [to stick with one pitcher] at this point,” All-City shortstop Cara Blumfield said. “But we all have full confidence in Stephanie.”

The way El Camino Real has been scoring, it might not matter who pitches.

The Conquistadores, seeking their sixth consecutive league title, have outscored opponents, 129-6, and conference foes, 54-0.

Against Chatsworth (11-6, 6-2), they collected 12 hits, including four by Blumfield. Christina Enea and Becky Hernandez each had two hits.

El Camino Real broke open a 4-0 game by sending 13 batters to the plate in an eight-run fourth inning.

The Chancellors, who got two hits from Karis Gant, didn’t help matters by committing six errors.

“We’re better than that,” Coach Andrea Rochetti of Chatsworth said. “They just didn’t come through today.
