In the Mission Viejo swimming invitational:

Ong named swimmer of meet--Mission Viejo’s Allen Ong set a meet record winning the 100 freestyle in 45.42, the best in the county this season. Ong also anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay, coming from behind to defeat Redlands with a 45.27 split.

Jessica Hayes of University was named the girls’ swimmer of the meet, winning the 100 freestyle in a county-best 51.63.

In the Santa Ana Elks baseball tournament:

No. 4 La Quinta 13, Diamond Bar 2 (6, mercy)--Brian Cisneros (5-0) threw a two-hitter and had two hits and three RBIs to lead La Quinta (20-1) to the title.

At the West Coast baseball classic:

No. 7 Calvary Chapel 12, Riverside Arlington 9--Matt Mossberg hit a grand slam in the second of the title game and was named tournament MVP for Calvary Chapel (18-1).

In the Santa Barbara boys’ volleyball tournament:

No. 1 Newport Harbor 3, No. 7 Santa Margarita 0--Tournament MVP Al Limon and Billy Clayton each had 15 kills to lead Newport Harbor (13-1) to a 15-7, 15-10, 15-10 victory in the title match.
