Some Businesses Dropped From Assessment District

Share

The City Council on Tuesday agreed to allow certain businesses to be excluded from the proposed Business Improvement District.

Councilwoman Laura Chick, who has led the effort to improve safety and attract trade to the area, offered the motion to eliminate Canby and Etiwanda avenues and Gault and Hart streets from the district on the grounds that the areas would not benefit. Excluding those properties will not increase the assessments levied on the remaining business owners, officials said.

Tuesday was the last day to protest the proposed ordinance, which would be enacted unless at least 51% of affected property owners object. As of Tuesday, 17% of the 700 businesses had protested, according to the city clerk.
