Golfers Swinging Into Playoff Form

After seven weeks of competition, Palisades appears ready to make a run for the City Section boys’ golf title.

The Dolphins, led by Chris Whitaker, Tye Alexander, Ian Cady, Ed Turner and Jake Sugarman, entered the week 6-0 in Northern-Pacific League competition.

The boys’ final will be played May 14 and 17 at the Wilson/Harding courses at Griffith Park.

Defending champion Granada Hills, San Pedro, Hamilton and North Hollywood are other league leaders.

Two teams and 10 players that are not part of one of the qualifying teams will be eligible to compete in the state tournament June 8 at the SCGA Members Club in Murrieta.

Defending girls’ champion Saki Vechi and Julie Park of Granada Hills, Stacy Low of Van Nuys Grant and Heeyoung Cho of Marshall are among the top players who will compete in the girls’ finals Monday and May 10 at the Hansen Dam course.

Playoff competition in boys’ tennis began Wednesday with first-round matches in both the City and Division brackets.

Defending champion Palisades is the top-seeded team in the City championship bracket.

Chatsworth is the top-seeded team in the Division bracket. Defending Division champion Van Nuys is seeded seventh.

Finals in both divisions will be played May 6 at Meridian’s Tennis L.A.

Boys’ volleyball playoffs begin Wednesday and conclude May 14 at Cal State Northridge.

Softball playoffs begin May 11. Championship games are May 22 or 25 at UCLA.

Swimming and diving finals are May 19 at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.

Track and field finals are May 27 at Van Nuys Birmingham.

The regular-season baseball schedule concludes May 18, but playoffs will not begin until June 1. The finals will be played June 10 at Dodger Stadium.
