Kennedy Still in a League of Its Own, 3-0

The coaches change, but the results have not for Kennedy High.

The Golden Cougars, who are playing under their third coach in three seasons, clinched their fourth consecutive North Valley League softball championship Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over San Fernando.

Senior left-hander Patty Del Real (15-2) struck out eight, walked none and pitched a two-hitter for Kennedy, which is ranked No. 10 in the region by The Times.

Del Real broke a scoreless tie with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.

Senior catcher Angie De La Cerda added a two-run triple in the sixth inning for Kennedy (16-2, 8-1 in league play).

The Golden Cougars, guided by first-year Coach Barbara Rodrigue, are 36-2 in conference over the last four seasons.

San Fernando is 16-5, 5-3.

El Camino Real 14, Taft 0--Christina Enea hit a three-run home run and Ashley Redlin struck out eight and allowed one hit for the Conquistadores (15-2, 8-0), who won a West Valley League game stopped after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Woodland Hills Recreation Center.

Becky Hernandez had three hits and four runs batted in and Lily Landers had three hits for El Camino Real (15-2, 8-0), which scored nine runs in the second inning.

Alemany 2, Louisville 1--Katie McGee hit a two-run triple in the second inning for the Indians in a Mission League victory at Alemany.

Sarita Contreras pitched a two-hitter for Alemany (8-10, 2-3).

Cleveland 8, Granada Hills 7--Vickie Vagquez knocked the ball out of the catcher’s glove and scored on Sheena Novick’s single to give the host Cavaliers a North Valley League victory.

Monique Abourched hit a double and a run-scoring triple for Cleveland (7-5, 4-5).

Cornerstone Christian 12, Cate 1--Julie Hartnell (12-4) pitched her third no-hitter in five games, striking out four for the Eagles (13-4, 6-0) in a Condor League game at Freedom Park in Camarillo that was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.

Cate scored in the second inning on a walk, a sacrifice bunt and two passed balls.

Eagle Rock 6, Verdugo Hills 0--The Dons committed five errors which led to four unearned runs and the Eagles took the Northeast League lead with a victory at Verdugo Hills.

The Eagles moved one-half game ahead of Verdugo Hills, which has won eight consecutive league championships.

Verdugo Hills (18-10, 7-2) has one game remaining and Eagle Rock has two games to play.

Krystin Myers doubled in the seventh inning for Verdugo Hills.

Pasadena Poly 9, L.A. Baptist 2--Sally Kabanuck collected three hits and drove in two runs for the Knights (8-9) in a nonleague game at Pasadena Poly (9-4).
