Cust Helps High Desert Rout Lancaster, 14-4

Jack Cust hit his 27th home run, had two doubles and drove in five runs for High Desert during a 14-4 victory over Lancaster on Thursday night in front of 1,256 at Adelanto.

Joel Ramirez hit a two-run double for the JetHawks in a three-run second inning that cut the Mavericks’ lead to 4-3.

The JetHawks are 44-80, including 21-33 in the second half.

High Desert is 58-66 and 27-26.

Cust hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give High Desert an 8-7 victory over the JetHawks on Wednesday night.

Center fielder Harvey Hargrove had two hits and three RBIs and second baseman Jermaine Clark had three hits and an RBI for Lancaster.

Adam Kennedy, an All-American shortstop at Cal State Northridge, has been promoted to the St. Louis Cardinals from triple-A Memphis and will make his debut this weekend against the New York Mets.

Kennedy, who played on the U.S. team in the recent Pan Am Games, was batting .327 with 10 home runs at Memphis. He hit his 22nd double Wednesday before being removed from the game and told to pack and drive to St. Louis in time to make the Cardinals’ flight to New York.

Rookie--Robert Fick (CSUN, Ventura College, Newbury Park) went one for five for the Tigers in a doubleheader, scoring two runs, driving in a run and stealing a base. Fick was playing for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in the spring. He caught five innings in one game and was the designated hitter in the other. . . . Left-handed pitcher Ryan Earl (Thousand Oaks) is sidelined with a sore arm. In seven starts for the Tigers, Earl is 3-2 with a 4.58 earned-run average. . . .
