Fox Lineup Has Four Regional Football Games

Fox Sports Net West 2 will televise four high school football games this season involving teams from the region, starting with the Sept. 10 opener between Alemany and Hueneme in Mission Hills.

Also slated for live telecasts are Westlake at Newbury Park in a Marmonte League showdown Oct. 14, Foothill League rivals Hart and Valencia at College of the Canyons on Oct. 28 and Taft at Chatsworth on Nov. 4 in a West Valley League game.

* Phil Avalos, 45, a former assistant at Pomona Pitzer, has been appointed football coach at St. Genevieve.

He replaces Steve Page, who resigned. Avalos has worked for the Marines the last three years.

* Akili Calhoun, former Kennedy High defensive lineman who played for the Oakland Raiders, has returned to the Granada Hills campus as an assistant coach.

BASEBALL

* New Brighton, Minn., won the American Legion World Series in Middletown, Conn., Tuesday night with an 11-5 victory over Kennewick, Wash. The game will be shown Monday at noon on ESPN.

Valley Chatsworth finished 0-3 in the series by losing to Edmond, Okla., 6-2, on Monday.

SOCCER

* Meghan Daly, a redshirt freshman from Westlake, made her debut Sunday for University of San Francisco with two second-half goals in a 6-4 exhibition loss to the Japan Club Seagulls.

Daly sat out last year because of an ankle injury.
