The Thousand Oaks boys defeated Regis (Colo.), 67-63, in the championship game of the Loyola tournament on Saturday, but the Lancers won’t get a chance to defend their title next year.

That’s because the tournament will become an all-Jesuit school affair next season.

Although Thousand Oaks will be excluded from the new format, Lancer Coach Richard Endres isn’t sure he’ll schedule another tournament in its place.

“We might leave that week open,” he said. “Because we usually have some kids who are still getting in shape.”

For better or worse, trash-talking is a frequent occurrence in many high school games.

But Emanuel Gutierrez of Franklin took it to a new level of ridiculousness in the first round of the Simi Valley boys’ tournament last week.
