Chavaughn Brown tore tendons in her foot and sprained her ankle in Foothill’s final league volleyball game. Brown, still working herself into basketball shape while recovering from her injury, instilled some pain on fifth-ranked San Clemente Monday.

Brown scored twice at the buzzer to end quarters, once more as the shot clock expired and convertedtwo free throws with 14 seconds left in the game to lead fourth-ranked Foothill to a 62-58 victory over San Clemente in a pool-play game at the San Clemente tournament.

Brown’s performance--it was the first time this season she played a full game--moved the Knights (6-2) into tonight’s championship game against sixth-ranked El Toro.

But it was Brown’s night. With only one second left on the shot clock, Brown took an inbounds pass under her basket and scored with 2 minutes 8 seconds remaining, tying the score at 58.

With 28 seconds left, she stole a pass from San Clemente’s Whitney Jones, and Jacky Williams converted two free throws two seconds later for a 60-58 lead.

Jones missed a six-footer and Brown rebounded, then converted a one-and-one opportunity for the 62-58 margin.
