Fullove Stars in Las Vegas as Simi Valley Claims Title

Branduinn Fullove had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Simi Valley High defeated Champagnat Catholic (Fla.), 71-48, in the championship game of the Las Vegas Gold Cup division on Wednesday in Henderson Valley, Nev.

Fullove was selected most valuable player of the Gold Cup bracket.

Brett Michel scored 19 points and made all 10 of his free throws for Simi Valley (9-0), which is ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times.

Michel was picked to the all-tournament team along with his brother, Shaun Michel, who scored nine points.

Dustin Villepigue had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Pioneers, who outscored cold-shooting Champagnat, 33-18, in the second half.

Champagnat (10-1) made seven of 29 shots (24%) in the second half, and only three of 17 attempted three-pointers (17%) in the game.

Simi Valley made 24 of 40 shots (60%), including made six of 10 three-point attempts in the first half.

In other games of the Las Vegas tournament:

Harvard-Westlake 62, Bakersfield 59--Russell Lakey scored 21 points and game most valuable player Eric Geffner had 13 points for Harvard-Westlake (7-2), which won the third-place game in the Silver Cup division.

North Hollywood 58, Arizona South Mountain 41--Ken Hauser had 17 points and six rebounds, and Eric Roller had nine points and five rebounds for North Hollywood (8-2) in the Bronze Cup third-place game.

Campbell Hall 77, Anaheim Canyon 65--Jesse Foster made 14 of 15 field-goals and five of six free throws en route to 33 points and Campbell Hall (10-3) won the seventh-place game in the Bronze Cup division.

Hassan Bassiri scored 13 points for Campbell Hall, which led, 42-21, at halftime.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Alemany 65, Newbury Park 55--Nyasha Bralock scored 18 points and Kate Beckler added 14 for the Indians (7-1) in a semifinal victory at the Simi Valley tournament.

Alemany, ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, meets Simi Valley tonight at 7:30 for the championship.

Bridgett Harris scored 23 points and Jessi Goddard had 17 for No. 4 Newbury Park (5-3), which lost to Alemany for the second time in three weeks.

The Panthers play Camarillo at 6:30 p.m. for third place.

Simi Valley 38, Camarillo 37--Teresa Cooper scored 20 points for the Pioneers (8-1) in a semifinal of the Simi Valley tournament.

Gillian Lillich led Camarillo (5-4) with nine points.
