Police are looking for two armed robbers who struck at a Ventura home over the weekend and shot the victim in the leg.

The robbery occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 100 block of Forbes Lane off Ventura Avenue. Police said Lazaro Quezada-Ramirez, 34, was shot once in the left thigh during a brawl with two men who forced their way inside his home and robbed him.

“During the process of the robbery [the victim] decided to fight with them,” Sgt. Randy Janes said. “And I suspect that they felt they were being overpowered and so they pulled out a gun and shot him.”

Quezada-Ramirez was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was treated for the gunshot wound and loss of blood, police said. He was discharged Sunday morning.

Police said Quezada-Ramirez began fighting with the suspects after they took his wallet. He chased the suspects into the street, where they reportedly jumped into a full-sized, dark-colored vehicle and fled. Quezada-Ramirez collapsed in the street.

Janes said both suspects are thought to be Latino males with dark hair. One suspect, who has a mustache, may be in his mid-30s, and the other in his mid-20s, Janes said. Both men were armed with small-caliber handguns, police said.

Anyone with more information should contact the Ventura Police Department.
