Streaky Hart Pulls Another Great Escape

The Hart High girls’ basketball team is quickly becoming the region’s premier escape artist.

The Indians rallied from a 12-point deficit on the road Tuesday night and defeated Canyon, 49-47, to extend their Foothill League winning streak to 45 games and clinch a share of their seventh consecutive league title.

It was the second consecutive game and third time in league play Hart rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit.

“Obviously, it’s not going to last forever,” said Coach Dave Munroe of Hart, whose team has won 69 of 70 Foothill games. “But you just keep riding it until you get dunked.”

This time, two free throws by reserve guard Mia Anderson with nine seconds left broke a 47-47 tie. Anderson made three of 13 free throws this season before sinking the decisive shots.

Briana Kentfield scored 14 points, Christina Sanchez had 13 and Tiana Jameson added 10 for Hart (13-8, 7-0 in league play).

LaTricia Fleming scored 14 points, all in the first half, Katie Holdaway had 12 and Julianna Diaz added 10 for Canyon (13-8, 4-3).

The Cowboys played without Janette Garcia, an all-league guard who was declared academically ineligible Monday.
